What can Psychotherapy
offer?
Emotions, relationships
and the impact of what has happened in the past, may seem confusing and overwhelming
at times.
Psychotherapy may offer a place to explore emotions and experiences, and gain
a greater awareness and understanding of oneself and relationships with others.
Psychotherapy may offer
a safe place to learn about our experience of ourselves. In our growth towards
wholeness we may find deeper meaning and understanding in our existence.
"Knowledge of one's
own deep nature is also simultaneously knowledge of human nature in general"
Maslow, 1971.
Why use the arts?
Using various art forms (painting, poetry, puppetry, music, clay, movement) may provide
further dimensions to the possibilities of psychotherapy. An image may communicate
many different meanings, perceptions and feelings at once. Creativity may be
a powerful means of understanding and giving meaning to our experience. Thus
we may gain increased freedom and choice in life.
"It seems likely that
when we create something ourselves
we are attempting to reorganise our
own inner experience" Storr, 1972.
No experience of using the
Arts is necessary.
My Approach
I work with individuals
in an integrative way, drawing on a range of theories, such as Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Jungian Psychology and Object Relations Theory, working in relationship
and with art image and metaphor. I have experience of working with individuals
experiencing conflicts, confusion and loss; wanting to live more creatively.
I have over 12 years experience working as an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist (MA, Diploma, Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education, IATE) with UKCP accreditation. I also have associate membership of UKAHPP. I am also training in Parent Infant Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the School of Infant Mental Health, London.
I offer Creative Arts group facilitation having worked in residential therapeutic communities, hospitals, children centres and other community settings, using movement, clay, visual arts, photography and sound. I am committed to supporting mindful, embodied and connected living.
